A father and son are lucky to be alive after falling through the ice yesterday.
Just before 7pm on Sunday, The Muskoka Lakes Fire Department, Bracebridge O.P.P., and Paramedics responded to Mortimer’s Point Marina, after receiving reports of people screaming as they had fallen through the ice.
With the assistance of the marina, two members of the rescue team and a member from the marina scoured the area and two helmets were located floating between ice packs.
However, they located two sets of tracks walking away from the broken ice to a closed boathouse with a residence above. The team was able to locate the father and son inside where there was no power or heat.
The parties were suffering from hypothermia and were assisted back to the airboat and transport back to the marina where they were both scene by the awaiting paramedics. They were then transported to South Muskoka Memorial Hospital for treatment.
