Hunters Bay Radio is Muskoka’s not for profit, Community Radio Station and the only radio station in Muskoka that is locally owned and operated with a contingent of over 50 staff and volunteers. We fill a void in the local media by providing a wide variety of music and community programming not available in the region.
Our eclectic music mix has been widely accepted by listeners all over the region, who love the variety and the fact that you never know what you will hear next.
Our community programming comes from our studios in Huntsville and Bracebridge on a gamut of topics that are of interest to our listeners. We have been compared to a local CBC, while others in the business have called us the “best community radio station in the country.”
A survey recently undertaken shows that we have acquired a large listener base, 25-65, 60% female with higher than average incomes. Our listeners told us that they came from other commercial stations in the region and CBC 1 & 2 and prefer to listen to Hunters Bay Radio over other stations.
HBR operates on a show format meaning that what you will hear depends upon what time or day you are listening to us. This allows us to serve different listener groups and expose new music to new people.
We’ve been lucky enough to be featured on CBC’s This Hour has 22 Minutes, and a feature on CPAC.
While we launched our FM service in 2014, HBR started online in 2009 earning listeners from all over the world and right here at home. Our online service remains dominant to this day, with the largest online reach of any local media outlet including web, Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram. Our newest technology is our studio textline.
We currently provide content on four websites:
We service the Almaguin Highlands, District of Muskoka, and Algonquin Park and parts of the Parry Sound District.
